| Our Readiness 1 preschool classroom has young children who are active and eager learners and learn best from hands-on experiences.
Play is truly the work of young children. Our room is set up with a variety of centers the children may use during free play time. During play
a child may draw/write a story at the art table and “read” it to their classmates at circle time. A child learns some basic math skills building with
blocks and legos. Conflict resolution skills are practiced in the dramatic play area as children decide who will be the mother and who will be
the little sister. The teachers in the room facilitate these and other learning situations during play by asking open-ended questions, by adding materials
to the classroom, and by listening to the children create new and interesting learning opportunities.
The center's art, science, and music teachers will also work
with the children.
We have a children’s sign-in sheet in the room to help your child learn to recognize and write their name. Some children may simply put a mark by their name, others may write a few letters, and a few may have mastered writing their names. There is no set age by when a child should be able to write their name. Please feel free to help your child find their name on the sign-in sheet. This activity at the sign-in sheet can even provide a moment of parent and child closeness before saying good-bye each morning. You will receive a lesson plan each week. We use the Pre-Kindergarten Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Childhood as a guide. Please feel free to ask questions about why we are doing a certain activity. You will be given a daily report on your child each day. There is also a daily message board outside the room.
